Celebrating Third Grade
What’s Happening in Bradfield’s Third Grade
Fourth Six Weeks: January 5th – February 13th

Reading
This six weeks in our fourth basal Unit, Tell Me More, we will examine customs, family traditions and living systems through our study of nonfiction. We will also focus on Biographies as the students learn about many important people, explorers, presidents, inventors, etc. We will also read the novel Helen Keller:Crusader for the Blind and Deaf to further this study.
Biography day will be the morning of Friday, February 6th! Mark your calendar! You won’t want to miss it! (Information on this important and fun event is attached!)
We will also continue to work on various reading skills in the basal reader, social studies book and science book in preparation for the Reading TAKS test March 3rd .

Writing and Grammar
This six weeks we will continue to incorporate strategies to improve our writing skills and to add elaboration. We will also continue our study of the 6 + 1 Traits of Writing as we study Word Choice. We will also continue to practice using complete sentences, capitalization, punctuation and spelling.

Math
This six weeks we will finish our study of multiplication and division. Please continue to review and study these facts at home as this is an important skill to have mastered for fourth grade.  We will then move on to exploring fractions. We conclude the six weeks with a study of measurement. We will learn about both the customary and metric systems.

Social Studies
In Social Studies, we will study many different communities and the history behind them. We will also look at how communities have changed due to advances in transportation, communication, technology and medicine.
We will also continue to work on Geography and our study of the states and capitals. Our region this six weeks is the Northeast area of the United States.  Thank you for helping your child with this.

Science

In Science, we will study the sun and its family. We will begin by learning about the sun and the moon and how they affect life on earth. We will also study the inner and outer planets of the solar system. The children will participate in many exciting labs with Mrs. Ezzell in the Science Lab.

We look forward to another great six weeks!
